Mars vs Humans and Godzilla?

A Martian landing site is expanding its facilities. Earth has gathered its air forces in the area to try to neutralize the site.

In the middle of it all, Godzilla appears! Where will his wrath fall?

This game was set up with 14 players in mind but 2 more airplanes could fit on the table so why not!

At the start we have l to r, Tim (Flying Helmut) Pete (Stumptinian) Mike (Mikejr74) Mike, seated - J.J. (FlackJacket)

The Martian base with 3rd Generation Martians. (All Quiet on the Martian Front models)

These Martians don’t have to pre-plot where they fire their heat rays or smoke from before movement. They will fire off of any of the 8 white spots on their base edge. Heat rays can hit all planes along the path of the blast.

Their shields cover 360* but must momentarily drop to fire. Whenever a plane shoots at them roll a d6, on a 6 the shield is considered down and full damage is taken. If the shield is up, it will reduce the damage by 2 hits per card. (ie a 3 or higher will cause damage as well as energy hits) For movement they use the Cuttlefish deck but move the front base edge to the movement arrow.

There are 360* firing heat ray batteries, 2 recharge tokend after shooting.

2.jpg

Ahhhh, Godzilla! Godzilla breath attack, claw attack and tail attack options limited to one claw and either breath or tail per turn. Breath and tail take 2 recharge tokens.

3.jpg

What’s going on here? All the aircraft started with the same facing but immediately have ideas of their own!

4.jpg

Godzilla seems focused on a particular Martian.

Chris in the Belgian Hanriot and Dakota in the Camel tempt fate with Godzilla’s tail.

5.jpg

Robert in the Pfalz heats right towards Pete’s Martian with J.J. right behind.

Robert’s shot gets through the shield and the surprised Martian begins to burn!

6.jpg

Pete can’t wait for some revenge and smokes Robert.

7.jpg

One crazy game!

8.jpg

Pete again smokes Robert and also gets J.J. into the cloud.

9.jpg

J.J puts some hurt on one of the heat ray batteries.

10.jpg

Pete’s heat ray tries to sizzle 3 airplanes. (later he hit 4 on one shot!)

11.jpg

Four pilots risk the sweep of Godzilla’s tail as he marches forward ignoring the human villages and terrain.

12.jpg

The Martians are not sure what to make of the very large earth creature heading their way.

13.jpg

Phillip has to deal with engine damage while Tim has a gun jam. Martian Pete asks, “Is that all ya got”?

14.jpg

Godzilla spots Mike. What do three knocking knees sound like?

15.jpg

The Martians aren’t sure what to do vs the monster.

The aircraft keep on harassing Godzilla but to minimal effect as only three go after him at any time.

16.jpg

18.jpg

Pete seems to be the center of attention for a good portion of the aircraft.

17.jpg

Godzilla’s breath is too much for the tripod. The energy release is something not seen on earth before!

19.jpg

Godzilla grabs another tripod and tosses it like a tin can.

20.jpg

While Godzilla admires the destruction of his target tripod the fallen one stands up, ready for more.

21.jpg

22.jpg

As three planes scream over Pete two more prepare their next attack.

23.jpg

24.jpg

Robert is unphased by Pete’s close range heat ray attack. (for those not familiar with heat rays, a close range heat ray is like a spotted cannon, if the first card is a zero a second is drawn)

25.jpg

With the heat ray battery destroyed the planes get over-confident and bunch up for their attacks.

26.jpg

Planes keep peppering away at Godzilla’s tail doing their best not to get swept away.

Godzilla pays no attention and grabs the tripod in front of him and tosses him….

27.jpg

Straight back over his shoulder on top of and toppling Pete!

28.jpg

The pilots try to take advantage of the downed shields of the toppled tripods.

29.jpg

Phillip’s cannon fails to damage the easy targets on the ground.

30.jpg

Godzilla now gets bored. He starts to play on his own, grabbing a Martian smoke firing template and eats a pen!

31.jpg

J.J. does well to take advantage of the downed tripods, deals out real damage and destroys Pete!

32.jpg

One tripod left but the surviving battery keeps on firing.

33.jpg

Godzilla turns back and sets one plane on fire with his breath.

34.jpg

Overall Godzilla was the loser destroying only one Martian and no objectives. Godzilla probably had the most fun in losing!

The Martians played defense and destroyed no objectives but did down several planes.

The Humans destroyed a tripod and several ground installations so with Godzilla’s help can claim a minor victory.

Godzilla’s ‘Toss’ of airplanes and tripods is random direction and distance. When he actually tossed the tripod back over his shoulder and on top of Pete’s tripod, I couldn’t have scripted it better!

My poor Belgian Hanriot needed incendiary ammo :p

A terrifying adventure for those of us in fragile biplanes but so much fun! My first two attempts: approach Godzilla, fire shot and jam guns, get swatted by tail and adjust facing 90*.

Well done, Peter!

great game pete! id have to say its a toss up between this and the cthuhlu scenario for the most fun games i played in! which is quite a statement for this old "dont mix your fantasy into my history" grognard doggo! in for a penny, in for a pound! i definitely had fun slinging my BFG around even if the performance was marginal lol.

Don't Argue the Toss! ;)

My plane card was under the fallen Tripod (simulating flying directly above it) when another Martian came whistling out of the skies and piled onto it's fallen comrade!

I was very relieved to hear that I took no damage from this huge missile, but I had a devil of a time getting my card out from under that six-legged tangle!
