‘Origins’ Game # 12 – The Day of the Eagles

3 Luftwaffe Me109s take on 4 Royal Air Force Spitfires over Southern England in August 1940.

My plane for this engagement

Game # 12 (1).jpg

Paul Armborst, Jim O’Neill, Bobsalt, Caveman, back-of-Phillip’s-head!

Game # 12 (3).jpg

And Clarence too!

Game # 12 (4).jpg

First approach – I tag Paul’s Spitfire, with him unable to reply.

Game # 12 (5).jpg

TWO Very-Near-Collisions!

Game # 12 (6).jpg

And a Third!

Game # 12 (7).jpg

Swinging around behind the foe.

Game # 12 (8).jpg

Firing again.

Game # 12 (10).jpg

Paul’s “Immelmann” reverse plays out very badly for one of us (him).

Game # 12 (11).jpg

He’s down! (Kill #1) >

Game # 12 (12).jpg

Everyone else jockeying for position.

Game # 12 (14).jpg

1 Me109 down! >

Game # 12 (15).jpg

Paul’s respawn Spitfire races straight at me – and lights up!

Game # 12 (17).jpg

German respawn, top right.

Game # 12 (18).jpg

Close, but no cigar (if I’d had a cigar, I could have lit it from Paul’s flames!)

Game # 12 (19).jpg

I “Immel”, shoot, and the combined fire damage and shooting damage is enough to drop Paul again (Kill #2) >

Game # 12 (21).jpg

As I put Paul down, I take hits from another Spitfire, and my wingman splashes another Englander. >

Game # 12 (24).jpg

The Spit which hammered me turns away – perhaps nervous about entering that lethal bit of airspace!

Game # 12 (26).jpg

Another respawn Spitfire.

Game # 12 (29).jpg

And another – now two of them are behind me, but distant. Just as well, since I’m down to just 1 remaining damage point, and with an Engine Hit I can only plan Slow manoeuvres!

Game # 12 (30).jpg

My other wingman takes a pounding!

Game # 12 (31).jpg

Too much to remain aloft….

Game # 12 (32a).jpg

…so down he goes. >

Game # 12 (33).jpg

My first wingman to respawn guns down another Spitfire >

Game # 12 (34).jpg

Trying to get away from my pursuers

Game # 12 (36).jpg

Dive cards give me greater travel distance! I have to keep out of gun range.

Game # 12 (39).jpg

More R.A.F. respawns appear far behind me.

Game # 12 (40).jpg

Hit the deck, and run for it!

Game # 12 (41).jpg

At last, I’m clear of pursuit.

Game # 12 (42).jpg

My comrades are outnumbered four to two.

Game # 12 (45).jpg

Very lucky escape!

Game # 12 (46).jpg

So, back into the fray (stage right).

Game # 12 (47).jpg

“Ausgezeichnet!” :guns::guns::guns:

Game # 12 (48).jpg

Now, hard right, and after him!

Game # 12 (51).jpg

One near-collision, and lots of shooting.

Game # 12 (52).jpg

Another 109 claims a Kill >

Game # 12 (53).jpg

We Germans both swing right…

Game # 12 (56).jpg

Looking for more opponents.

Game # 12 (58).jpg

My wingman performs an “Immelmann”

Game # 12 (59).jpg

So do I; my wingman fires at Paul 3rd Spitfire…

Game # 12 (60).jpg

…and then collides with him!

Game # 12 (62).jpg

Another “Immelmann” by me, and I’m on Paul’s tail.

Game # 12 (65).jpg

One of the other Spitfires gets too close to his 109 quarry.

Game # 12 (68).jpg

Paul turns across my guns…:guns::guns::guns:

Game # 12 (69).jpg

…and I splash him for the third time in this game! (sorry!) >

Game # 12 (72).jpg

We call time there – my tally (with one off-table escape).

Game # 12 (74).jpg

A well-named game – it certainly was “The Day of the Eagles!”
