Thread: RCAF Curtis P40D

    Default RCAF Curtis P40D

    Hey Guys,

I am new to this game and have started to look up the aviation participation from the Royal Canadian Air Force. I am very limited in our aviation history in WWII but have found that the RCAF flew the Curtis P40D in the pacific campaign.

Does anyone know is there a P40D miniature made for WOW WWII?

If not, is there another 1:200 manufacturer that I could investigate for either a painted plane or blank?

    According to a wiki member....

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtiss...dian_Air_Force

The RCAF sent no 111 squadron to defend the Aleutions islands which ended up being a diversionary tactic towards the attack on midway. I would love to create this Canadian squadron and see if the japanese plane that flew in this campaign is already made by wow.

Any help would be appreciated, I have heard about the series 1 set of planes but haven't found a list?

The P-40 will be coming out in series 3 for WWII. I would guess that that series will be out around mid 2010. Have a look at the home page of this site for future WoW releases. I try to keep that up to date with latest release info.

    Terry,

The RCAF in the Aleutians would have been flying against Japanese naval aircraft. The Zero is already out in series 1 and the dive bomber is comming out in series 2 sometime next spring.
I don't collect 1/200 non-WoW planes but have heard there is a good selection of them out there. The P40 undoutably among them.

    Hey Guys,

I have no intent on collecting non WOW planes, but I just thought that the chance of WOW releasing a P40 in RCAF would be pretty small as the RAF and USAF both flew those planes in much much higher amounts.

Being Canadian, I just thought I would like to create a squadron that is historically correct in their markings as best as I could create it. (I would just have to break away from painting my warhammer figures for a bit

Thank you so much for the information guys on the previous and future releases!

I am an Australian player whose grandfather fought in the New Guinea with 76 Squadron RAAF flying P-40E's. I couldn't wait for the WoW minis to arrive so I purchased a couple of Air 200 P-40's from Magister Militum and painted them up in 76 Sqn colours, picture below.

I use rare earth magnets to attach them to WoW altitude pegs. No need to wait if you want your RCAF P-40's now!

    Hey Guys,

Thanks for that Carl, your planes look awesome! I can see you are using the "A" deck, did you research that to see how close the manuevers, damage, and shooting points are in relation to the P40?

I am ready to create my Canadian P40 squadron but I cannot find where I can buy online these models (Air 200 P-40's). Does anyone have a source? Even if WOW made the P40, I will be repainting them to match Canadian colours, so I am looking for the most economical way to buy the blanks. Any help would be appreciated!

I found this site, but it doesn't source the scale just the size (3.5") would that be correct for the P40 at 1:200?

    Thanks!

You can get Air 200 P-40's here: http://www.magistermilitum.com/prodt...ageHistory=cat

You get two unpainted models for about AU$10.

Can't wait to see your finished products!

    Cheers,

    Carl.

Thanks for the link Carl! I will have to check it out to see how much shipping is to Canada though ????

    Terry,

I am not sure how much postage is to Canada but I found the cost to Australia quite reasonable.

    Cheers,

    Carl.

    Terry,

I can get you a pair of the AIR200 P-40 for $7. I ship to canada all the time for miniature trades and am guessing USPS would be less than $5.

    I get mine from:
    http://www.lastsquare.com/

If they do not ship to Canada I would be happy to pick some up and mail them. They have many other planes as well.

    I use the I-95 decals 1/285 scale.

These come unpainted, but very easy to prime and paint even if you have little or no modeling skills.

Here is how the AIR200 models look side by side with WoW models:

You can obviously get more detailed and add props and such. I choose to keep them basic for now and my children of some of my primary opponents.

Let me know if you need help. I work in MAdison and frequent The Last Square.

Thank you so much for the offer, I will certainly check them out today or tomorrow! Did you get your flight stands from them as well? or if not, where would you suggest?

Excellent job by the way on your minis!
