  9. A Penguin walks into a bar asks the barman ' Got any fish'? The bar man replies 'This is a pub not a fishmongers get out' The next day the penguin walks into the same bar asks the barman 'Got any fish'? The barman replies 'I told you yesterday', 'This is a bar not a fishmongers get out! The same routine carries on for a few more days the barman is getting more and more irate ever day, The penguin walks into the bar asks the barman 'have you got any fish'? The barman says if you don't go away (polite version) I will nail your flippers to the bar! The penguin replies 'got any nails'? The bar man replies...NO! The penguin asks... Got any fish?! Somewhere in here there is a lesson to be had?

  11. Hi Dan Sam 'Shall' is certainly still a very common word in use today.. Mainly used in a sentence asking a question....spoken orally.... ' Shall I buy yet more Wings of Glory model Planes ?' or as stated previously in a post... normally in written format rather than spoken... 'You shall continue to purchase Wings of Glory aeroplanes'...inference is 'MUST'.... in many instances 'Shall' is replaced by 'I will' or 'you will' or in some cases ....'you should' or 'I should' but this depends on the use of the word for the desired meaning - either spoken or written... different uses dictate different words being used... Welcome to a wonderfully confusing language....and this is the ' international language ' so we are told ? ! hope that has left you suitably confused ! I know we are.... regularly.... Regards Maverick:thumbsup:
  12. On this day 100 years ago ~ 27th February 1916 Western Front Battle of Verdun: Germans take Talou Hill, and repulse five attacks on Fort Douaumont. French repulse attack on Eix station. Southern Front Austrians occupy Durazzo. Asiatic and Egyptian Theatres Russians occupy Kermanshah (Persia). Farafra and Dakhla Oases occupied by Arabs. Naval and Overseas Operations P. & O. liner "Maloja" mined off Dover (155 lost). We shall remember them Maverick:salute:
  13. 100 YEARS AGO TODAY...... 26th February 1916 Western Front Battle of Verdun: Germans capture Fort Douaumont: French save the situation by a counter-attack and repulse Germans at Poivre Hill. Southern Front Activity on Italian front: indecisive results. Italians leave Durazzo. Serbians, Montenegrins and Albanians withdraw from Albania. Asiatic and Egyptian Theatres Russians occupy Ashkala (Armenia). Senussi attacked and defeated by Brigadier-General Lukin near Agagia (Barani, Egypt). Charge of Dorset Yeomanry; Gaafer Pasha, prisoner. Naval and Overseas Operations French transport, "Provence II" torpedoed in Mediterranean (930 lost). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The above is the summary extract from the war records daily report.... It appears that by 1915 activity was fierce on both land and sea.... in most of the globe.. We shall remember them:salute:
