Here is the email.... Shapeways is Coming Home Dear Tim, I am delighted to announce that Shapeways is coming home. Two original co-founders along with the highly-skilled leadership team from our Eindhoven factory have stepped in to steward the company into its next chapter. After Shapeways Inc. filed for bankruptcy in July, we knew we had to resurrect the company and preserve the digital manufacturing engine we all helped to build - a combination of dedicated, skilled people, cutting-edge machinery and sophisticated software. Moving forward, our focus is on rebuilding Shapeways and leveraging our digital manufacturing engine for our customers’ success. We regret to inform you that our marketplace cannot be revived as it previously existed, as all marketplace accounts and accompanying data were deleted in the bankruptcy. We still believe in the Shapeways Shops concept and are actively pursuing new ways to replace this service for the Shapeways community. This exploration will take time and we ask for your patience on this journey. We hope to find a solution that allows you to access a similarly eclectic array of unique objects as you came to expect from the Shapeways marketplace. Stay tuned for details. If you are a creator yourself you can upload and order your models here - we’d love to have you back. In the meantime, you can learn more about the new Shapeways in our press release, here. We have compiled a FAQ around the bankruptcy and loss of the marketplace here. And you can learn a bit more about me, the new leadership team, and our vision for Shapeways here. Warmly, Marleen Vogelaar, CEO Shapeways Press Release Shapeways comes home to trusted management and founding visionaries Eindhoven, 3rd December 2024 – Shapeways, a pioneering force in digital manufacturing, is returning to the global market with a new management team, a sustainable business model and a renewed customer-centered approach. Originally launched in 2008, Shapeways underwent significant structural and business model changes under the previous leadership, ultimately leading to bankruptcy in July 2024. But, the management team of the profitable Eindhoven factory has joined forces with two of the original Shapeways founders — both of whom have been out of the business for over a decade — to reset the company’s trajectory. The new management team has completed the purchase of all available assets from both the Dutch and American trustees handling the bankruptcy of Shapeways Inc., and Shapeways BV, and now owns the Shapeways name, website and original Eindhoven production facility. Shapeways will leverage its software, hardware, design and engineering capabilities to be a digital manufacturing engine for its customers. Leveraging history for progress The new Shapeways management team are: Marleen Vogelaar – CEO: Co-founded Shapeways in 2007 and left in 2014, former COO/CFO Jules Witte – COO: Joined Shapeways in 2012 and remains with the company, former Plant Manager Robert Schouwenburg – CTO: Co-founded Shapeways in 2007 and left in 2012, former CTO Job van de Laar – Plant Manager: Joined Shapeways in 2019 and remains with the company Tiago São José – Head of Engineering: Joined Shapeways in 2012 and remains with the company New Shapeways CEO Marleen Vogelaar explains: “When I helped to launch Shapeways in 2008 it was at the forefront of democratizing access to digital manufacturing. The new management team believes there is a ‘next chapter’ to be written in the Shapeways story, one that includes learning from the past and building a pragmatic, financially sustainable and operationally stable company that continues to provide exceptional service to our users.” Shapeways currently operates from its original home town, Eindhoven, The Netherlands with an international team and will continue to deploy and expand its resources and footprint to be a digital manufacturing engine for its global customer base. New COO Jules Witte commented: “Our belief in Shapeways has driven us to continue this journey. The acquisition of the Shapeways brand marks a significant milestone on that journey, but doesn’t signal the end. In fact we are excited by the opportunities that lie ahead for Shapeways, our customers and their customers. We have a long way to go, but retain our core ability to produce high-quality parts to meet the needs of our varied customer base.” Key points: ● New management team made up of Eindhoven-based Shapeways BV team and two original Shapeways co-founders ● Shapeways will continue to offer a wide range of 3D printing technologies and a large suite of materials and post-processing options, with standard and custom quality control options ● While the marketplace and shops are not able to be restarted because of data lost during the bankruptcy and unusable infrastructure, solutions for the community are actively being sought ● User IP (e.g., model data) was owned by the users, not the defunct entity. The new management team bought all the available intellectual property owned by the defunct entity, but did not buy or get access to user-owned IP as the trustee could not sell that to any new owner ● All Manuevo accounts and model data will be present through www.shapeways.com going forward. More information can be found in the FAQ document here. About Shapeways: Shapeways is the world’s leading platform offering programmatic solutions for diverse manufacturing industries. I just received an email from Shapeways saying that one of their Execs and some of their staff are restarting the European operation. The Marketplace will not be quite the same as before, and they want input from their former Designers/Sellers to replace the lost Marketplace database. There is a link in the email, but Work has blocked my access to the new Aerodrome, and I can't attach it by my phone. I'll try to add it here when I get home this evening. Cheers 🍺 Tim

One written source does not change/prove anything. Define "sustained turn rate" - how long for, at how many different altitude levels (not just one!), and most importantly, at what speed? As for "turning as well as the Sopwith Camel, and better than the Fokker Dr.1" - in which direction? (left, right or both) and how much speed did he bleed off in order to achieve this performance? How was the turn circle measured? What about other altitude levels? Other sources (multiple) cite the Fokker D.VII F (overcompressed BMW 185hp) as superior in all respects (INCLUDING SPEED!!!) to the SPAD XIII at high altitude, but this is not corroborated in Jonsson's book - should we change the D.VIIs stats as well, just because one or more readers say so? I say no changes are necessary, but that's just me.

That goes for me, too....
