A proud two seater moment
Paukenschlager replied to Paukenschlager's topic in WGF: General Discussions
Thank you all! Side note, this same picture was posted on Facebook and a very clever algorithm censored it because apparently the photo depicts nudity I'm sure the algorithm is jealous of my results:slysmile: -
As the first game ended yesterday I could hardly believe my UFAG C.I was the only one to have shot down an enemy yesterday at my table in the Roman Tournament of Wings of Glory after successfully bombing the Entente tanks! My very clever adversaries had placed the target cards next to each other in a row running parallel to the long side of the mat. The two targets were astride of the field hospital which was obviously the target you did not want to hit (hitting would case you to lose 12 Pts IIRC). I went for the safe option and approached at short range, dropping one of the bombs on a stall, getting full score for it. As both my adversaries were close by and my teammate had got out of the table, I decided not to attempt manouvering for the second drop and hastily made for home. One adversary in a Camel got out of the table as well while the other, whose Spad XIII I had been targeting whenever in range, I kept at bay by stalling frequently so that it would overtake me, getting myself out of his firing arc and keeping him in the cross hair of my B firing MGs. Took him down by sideslipping towards him as he had manouvered around me - he ended up just abaft my port wing, right within my rear gun firing sector and incapable of firing towards me. Very unlike me to post an AAR without pictures but a great time was had with a great crowd (around 30 participants) - therefore I was too busy having fun to snap more pictures than a single shot of my cunning two seater!

Online games in the WoG App
Paukenschlager replied to Paukenschlager's topic in WGF: General Discussions
Gents, I'll hang around between 9pm and 11pm CET (provided Baby Paukenschlager doesn't need feeding or diaper changes) basically every evening until end of the month when it'll be time to go back at sea to win some bread. If you are there just drop a line in the common chat and I'll be happy to see you in the virtual sky! -
I got the WoG App just yesterday and I'm really curious to try the online games. Would anyone be up for an online match tonight (Sunday 7th April) at 2200LT CET? That would be 2100 UK, 4pm East Coast, 1pm West Coast. If we all like it and it works, might do it a semi-regular thing!

wgf Trading/Selling a few WW1 items
Paukenschlager replied to Paukenschlager's topic in Sale/Trade/Wanted Classifieds
Hi Gary, replied to your PM -
Due to (un)available storage space and gaming time I'm downsizing my collection and getting rid of a couple of double items. I'd prefer to trade for WW1 minis but I'll consider offers for sale. Pics here just to give an idea - more and more detailed photo available on request. Wings of War sets These are the original 2004-2006 ones, with NO minis - all in original packaging wrap. Good for collectors, vintage gaming or as a source of rulers/tokens/decks Famous Aces (Portuguese edition) Watch your Back! (Italian edition) Burning Drachens (Italian edition) Expansion sets/Booster packs (also NO minis) Flight of the Giants Immelmann booster pack Dogfight booster pack Wings of War minis (produced by Nexus) UFAG C.I - KuK Luftfahrtruppen - Series 3 year 2009 - never used (double purchase) cards still in the original wrapper Wings of Glory WW1 minis (produced by Ares) Duel Pack Albatros D.V vs Spad XIII - never used (double purchase) still in the original wrapper Siemens-Schuckert D.III - von Beaulieu-Marconnay - Series 6 year 2014 - never used (double purchase) cards still in the original wrapper Wings of Glory WW2 minis (produced by Ares) Gloster Gladiator - used, good condition (unintentional purchase - I don't play WGS!) Can ship to Europe/UK - Any payment (shipping fees for trades, shipping fees+agreed price for sales) through PayPal.

general First ever purchase - Where do I go from here?
Paukenschlager replied to Paukenschlager's topic in Shapeways Models
I ordered it a couple of days ago, just waiting for the courier to deliver it. It's my third book by Kilduff, his biography of Von Richthofen was the first "serious" book on WW1 aviation I read (I must have been 19) and loved it. On the contrary, his book on Bishop didn't really excite me - feels unnecessarily apologetic IMHO. I'm crossing fingers for "Iron Man" to be as good as the one on the Red Baron - certainly Berthold's life is worth of an adventure novel! -

Undoubtedly a brave fighter - Nevertheless I believe he would have been forgotten had it not been for his postWW1 activities, like many other more successful aces which we rarely hear or read about. For comparison, think of Berthold: a way more remarkable man and warrior, but sadly pretty unknown to the general public. In any case, what counts is that both have a WoG mini we can play with! -
general First ever purchase - Where do I go from here?
Paukenschlager replied to Paukenschlager's topic in Shapeways Models
Alas not yet, Chuck! Having just moved into a new house and a recent promotion on the field to Dad left me with little time and space for arts and crafts - I still manage to play a game of WoG in the evening tho, sacrificing some  time! -
Thanks for chipping in Flash, always sage advice coming from your end! I guess that's the sensible thing to do. I never play much with Ace Skills, I am bad at memorising stuff and going back and forth to the skills cards disrupts my flow in the game. Nevertheless this time around is really a case of "Do or Die!":crash: I use plane optional rules where I feel it enhances realism, such as "Unreachable MGs", for which I'm thinking to tweak the rule so that a red jam is a total jam and a green one drops the deck to B.

Ciao Riccardo benvenuto all'aerodromo e buona fortuna negli European Master!

Ciao Michael benvenuto sul 'drome da un altro giocatore di Wings of War 1ªGM! Spero di riuscire a partecipare quest'anno a Roma - magari ci vediamo lì.

Thanks Larry! My nerdy self is not new at translating book pages into WoG scenarios (my very first attempt is here) It is nice to pay homage to some beloved pieces of fiction and it makes designing scenarios an interesting intellectual exercise where I have to juggle the usual game balance and historical accuracy with what's described in the book and my availability of adequate models! Starting with a Pfalz D.III is per se quite a challenge so late in the war (the first scenario is set in Feb 1918!) Next scenario will definitely need some tweaking and home-brewing of the rules or Stachel and Richthofen will be made mince out of, if it was to be played as it is in the book!
