EDIT: I decided to just make this post about my adventures of getting 1/144 scaled airplanes and customizing them for Wings of Glory! I hope you will enjoy and post below!

I’ve been way for quite a while with work and family obligations. I’m sure you all know how that goes! My son and I were feeling the itch to get back into Wings of Glory! We had a couple quick questions!

Any recommendations for 1/144 scale World War 2 planes? Which companies in 2022 (soon to be 2023!) are still producing WW2 planes in the 1/144 scale? I live in the USA if that helps at all. Are there any companies that won’t break the bank for WW2 in 1/144? Educate me please, I’m no expert!

My son and I were going to try and get a few planes in this scale and have some fun over the next few months!

       Thank you for your suggestions!

       ~Chuck

The 2023 1:144 Scale WoG Plane Thread

Hello friends!

Okay so 2023 is officially half over, July is almost gone. For a few years I’ve been trying to collect very specific 1:144 scale planes for Wings of Glory. Because my hands shake, I can’t paint the tiny models. Putting on the decals is a challenge. It’s embarrassing but it’s life!

So I collect pre-painted 1:44 WW1 and WW2 planes. Just the fighters mostly. The problem I’m finding is since I live in the USA, I haven’t found many pre-painted WW1 or WW2 options to buy! When I place an order from Japan it often takes 3 to 5 MONTHS to arrive. Ugh.

So I thought I would see what you all advise for 2023? Other than 3D printing! Lol. What companies are making pre-painted WW1 and WW2 planes in 2023? Are any of them for sale in the USA? Any recommendations that are not 3D print related?

Thank you all a lot for your help!!!

Blessings,

As I started to collect 1/144 scale WW2 planes, I stumbled upon a really inexpensive set of 1/144 WW2 tanks and couldn’t resist buying a set. The quality for under $9 dollars was excellent!

Does anyone else here do any 1/144 tank gaming? I was thinking about adding a WW2 tank adventure to my next Wings of Glory WW2 run! If I can find other 1/144 WW2 tanks, I’ll probably end up buying several.

Thought I would ask for some advice. I’ve purchased some 1/144 scale WW2 planes recently and I have yet to put on the decals. Some of these decals are absolutely TINY! There’s a worry that having never done this before I’ll fowl it up. They are F-toys German WW2 planes. Wow, are these decals small!

So I’m humbly offering cold beer/lager for advice on how best to apply my decals to these 1/144 planes.

Respectfully,

My apologies if this question has been asked and answered previously. I've been an avid player of the WW1 genre of the game for many years and am now thinking about expanding into the WW2 realm. Given the wide range of available 1/144 scale WW2 planes out there I'm leaning towards this scale, but clearly there's an impact on the rules and movement. I've been skimming through the threads, but is there a link to a discussion that outlines any changes I need to consider when playing at this scale? Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers,
A.

Firing range in 1/144 scale

I have always been of the opinion that the current length of the range rule us for firing worked just fine when playing in 1/144 scale. My group plays where you measure from the firing plane's center post to any part of the target plane's base. This has worked just fine for single seat planes and most two seaters.

However, with heavy bombers like the B-17 and B-24, measuring from the gun locations has shown that the current range ruler is very short. When testing my new B-17 stand, the bottom turret only has a range slightly longer then the wing.

Do you guys think that the range ruler should be lengthened to counter this?

My muti plane bomber base.

At the Williamsburg Muster i tried out some multi plane bomber bases. The are made from acrylic photo frames purchased from Walmart. I used the 8 x 10 inch made by Mainstay. The first step was to remove the base section even with the back. I did this with a sharp blade and a razor saw. Score the cut top and bottom and use the saw to make a clean cut. Scoring and snapping never works well. This left a width of 91/4 inches. I then measured 5 1/2 which works well with most medium bombers. This was tight with B-29`s i discovered later. My next batch will be 6inches deep.
I ordered some heavy duty risers and toppers from Litko. I also custom ordered 1-15 altitude markers, smoke markers and flame markers for the heavy duty risers.

The original batch with standard Litko risers were to flimsy. The heavy duty risers worked well with my new B-29`s.
