There is a thread here on the site that talks a little about rules for them. As for minis, currently you only options are Skytrex (over US $300 and by special inquiry only as far as I know) and scratch building one your self. A third option should be coming real soon. My prototype kit is in the mail to me as I type this. I have to do a quick build on it for Origins in just under 2 weeks, but a 2nd prototype build will happen shortly after and then if all goes well, it will go to production.
My kit will be a laser cut wood and fabric Type P zep. It will require assembly, covering and painting. I'm still working out the best way to base it. I hope to offer it for far less then the Skytrex one.
Can't wait to see that prototype, Colonel.
Has anyone ever converted the Lindberg Graf Zeppelin kit? Local store here has them for $40
great!
thanks
I'll wait to see it. Meantime I'm going to try with the zeppelin's card.

There is a Zeppelin on Ebay at the moment it says wings of war i am not sure if this is correct but its on the WOW game mat not sure you could call it a mini lol
It looks very nice but it not seems so easy to use. Maybe I need to review my game plan.
It's so big!
Whoa! I'm not sure that looking at the pictures as posted I would even want to use that in a WoW game. It looks like more trouble than its worth!
That is the Lindberg kit - you can get one here http://www.amazon.com/Lindberg-70816...0MQ7640:minis:

Wow. That's a really great price! Only $49?! Marked down from $100. Geez, if I hadn't just blown a ton of money on 1/144 tank & truck miniatures, I would snap this up in a heartbeat.
I know, I know.... the design is all wrong for the time period, but I can't justify the price of Skytrex's P-Type Zeppelin (not to mention the international shipping). With a 3'x8' gaming surface at home, I 'd probably end up scooting it down to one end of the table.
Has anyone seen THIS beauty before?--
$300 USD (made to order in the Czech Republic)

Keegan, that one has not been available for many years now
My Zep is going to be at the correct 1/144 scale... so close to 4 feet long and around 8 inches wide. Very big! I'll be building it this week and it will have it's maiden flight at Origins later this month. I typically play on a 4x6 foot table. The Zep will sit in the middle of the table length wise (or maybe diagonal), so there will plenty of room to fly around and over/under it. It will also not move as the planes will be "buzzing" around it it. At Origins, we have 5x8 foot tables, so even more room for it!
As you will be piloting a Zeppelin Keith, will you be changing your rank to Kapitan zur See for Origins ?

Agreed. We have a pilot who has just completed a Zeppelin he built from scratch using tube stock. I have not seen it yet as he has been gone to New Zealand and just returned. I don't know the exact scale of it. Hope he brings it to play tomorrow or Thursday so I can check it out. If it is scale it will be huge.
That Lindberg kit is in a smaller scale, btw.
I think a zeppelin could be a lot of fun at cons where you could put 2 (or more) long tables end to end. They wouldn't move that quickly anyway, so you could get a good number of turns in before it 'escapes' off the end. Obviously, turning's an issue.
I think the key to using Zeps in a game is to keep them stationary. They are the focal point of the mission and all the action would/should happen around them. Keeping them still avoids most, if not all, of the issues that come up due to their size. To simulate them escaping, just set a turn limit on the game. This could be explained as Time on Target... or the scouts running low on gas in non military talk.
I figured that's how it would actually be played, and it's completely reasonable. I'm just going for something crazier. I may have to make a full-sized zeppelin 'card' and try it out at home. I've got a 10' dining room table. If need be I can break out the 8' banquet table to go with it
Okay, here is (I hope it works) a link to the pictures one of our pilot's two Zeps, //http://scarybiscuitsstudios.blogspot.com/search/label/Wings%20Of%20War he scratch built out of tube stock and tissue paper. They are not quite 1/144 scale, we estimate that they are about 1/168. I am encouraging him to post a 'How to...' thread on the building of these. These Zeps were built from both german and british schematics and photos, plus color plates. They will be deadly as there are no gaps in the firing arcs, i.e., no blindspots.
If the link doesn't work, just cut and paste the 'http' into your search engine and it will take you there. We both are learning to upload pictures, or we'd have done that here.
Enjoy!!
Sorry, I'm still learning. Link did not work. try this - http://scarybiscuitsstudios.blogspot...ngs%20Of%20War Got my fingers crossed!
Voila! It worked! Enjoy. A 'How to...' from Clipper1801 coming soon!
Well, those certainly do look snazzy!
Very nice... he has some serious skills! Were he a member here, I would be handing out some rep for those babies!

Get ready Cowman, he's a member, names Clipper1801. He's been under orders to Report For Duty for three months and hasn't. Upon threat of Court-Martial he will report tomorrow afternoon! Or I will have to report this breech of military conduct to the Feldgendarmie! Seriously, he did not understand the report for duty process. So his son (Timelapse - here on the 'drome) and I showed him the Reportin' ropes. He's our Pastor, wow, can you imagine a Pastor with this talent and likes WoW! Sure makes Church more interesting than it already is.
I've seen the photographs of the process of his building these and the constrction is amazing. I'm anxious for the final 'How to...' to be completed. He put a tiny magnet into the British one that he attaches a Camel to it for escort, as it shows in the original RNAS photos! Currently it's Olieslagers Camel but he is planning to repaint in the mufti of the appropriate RNAS unit.
Those do look good!
The parts for my Zep showed up yesterday morning. I'm pretty impressed with how the laser cutting came out. I'll get some pics of the parts and some as I build it this weekend (man it is going to be a close call getting it all done before next Wednesday!!!).
I will wait for your Zeps Herr Oberst!
I'm anxious to see your Zeps as they will be actual 1/144 scale. We're going to develop rules for these this in playing them. In fact this may be where the Black Swan will shine, no?
I've every confidence you'll, to paraphrase that sage philosopher - Larry, the Cable Guy, Git 'er done by Wednesday!
I agree, the zeppelin should be the focus of the game, the target! I'd like play a game in wich the zepp's mission is a ground bombing for example london's neigbour. The mission of defender is to shoot down the zeppelin with fighters and anti-aircraft guns.
Those Zep are awesome
Better get the plans out and make one myself

You`d be surprised, A Zeppelin had quite a reasonable turn of speed when compared with some of the earlier period aircraft, had a much better ceiling and a very good rate of climb (its lighter than air so all they have to do to is chuck out some balast!).
Some had quite a reasonable amount of firepower as well!
Best way to handle one in WoW I think to have it stationary in the middle of the map but to have the map move with the Zepp!
That would involve moving all the attacking planes backwards towards the rear of the Zepp a distance equivelant to it`s forward speed untill they fall off the back of the map.
Someday I'd like to book an entire auditorium or gym-size room for a huge multi-Zeppelin raid, where the German players are trying to rack up "points" of ground-target damage, and the Allied players are trying to "light the cigars"--possibly with the option to try to frag the Luftschiffhallen before the ships are moved out to launch or after they're mooring and unable to evade.
At risk of Recommending a Non-WoW Game On A WoW Forum: I suggest you get (if you don't have it already) _Airships At War_: http://0191362.netsolhost.com/Level2/aaw.html -- it is... illustrative... as to why military airships failed in WW1 (and why they're never ever making a comeback).
But what a way to travel. like an ocean liner of the skies. I'd love to go up in one just floating on the breeze. hmmmm

Herr Oberst had his Zep at Origins...there are pics of it here
In the one picture is appears to be under attack from 15 planes. Any word on how it fared.
Pooh
In that particular battle, the Zep went down with only two aircraft being lost by the Entente attackers. Redcoon2 was the first attacker to go down, and returned as an Albatross in support of the Zep. I (The cow-spotted SE.5a on the port side of the Zep) decided to cross under the Zep and go after his Albatross. As I flew along the starboard side of the Zep I misjudged my turn, and got too close to the Zep. I took hits from four seperate Zep gunners, and then was shot down not long after that to return as the second Alabtross escorting the Zep. The Zep went down about one turn later.
