Default Get In The Game - Middle Wallop 25th May 2024

"Get in the Game" is the name of the tabletop gaming event being held on Saturday 25 May 2024 at the Army Flying Museum, Middle Wallop, Hampshire SO20 8FB,
hosted by the Company of Makers a UK based charitable organisation for Veterans and this event is for about 80-100 veterans who have expressed an interested in wargaming.
Conrad Steele-Benny is our point of contact.

I've started this thread to rationalise organisation for this event from info in original linked Company of Makers thread

Info at the moment is: Setup from 0800 - 0900; doors open 0900-1600, there is plenty of parking on site and easy access to the venue, we'll be in The Heywood Hall and Conference room and as participants we'll have full access to the museum while we're there.

So far we have names of those who have registered an interest, those highlighted are confirmed attending
    Names so far are:
    Dave (flash); Gary (Hu Rhu); Tim (Flying Helmut); Mike (Mikeemagnus); Suzie (Suka); Mark (Woof); David (David Manley); Baz (Baz) - depending on house move;

Ideally we need a minimum of six to run the WW1 double table and we may be allowed more, Mark (Woof) is also be offering a WW2 table so more volunteers will likely be needed if you fancy that, please pass the word, I'll see if we can scare up a couple more locally.

Looking at the museum's website: The Apache Cafe is open from 0900hrs - 1530hrs for breakfast, lunch and snacks, drinks, cakes and ice creams, with hot food served from 9am – 2.30pm. Only food purchased from the Apache Cafe is to be eaten in the cafe.
Food and drink is not to be consumed inside the museum, there is a picnic area for packed lunches by the outdoor play area though.
Photographs of exhibits are welcomed, however tripods are only permitted after 2pm and not during school holidays
We are unable to give cash back nor do we have a cash machine on site
Large rucksacks are not permitted in the museum for security reasons
The Helicopters in Action AV show, which runs hourly in the Hayward Hall, contains flashing lights and loud, sudden noises.

Sheppey Models will be there to support your tabletop gaming and modelling needs. https://sheppeymodels.co.uk/

Received confirmation from Conrad - Set up between 0800-0900; pack up starts at 1600.

    Points of contact: Conrad Steele-Benny – 07961 032866; Steve Bomford (Company of Makers) – 07973 620968

If you don't want to be filmed or photographed they will provide you with ID to ensure you're not filmed or photographed at the event.

Conrad expects to meet & greet us, as well as show us the access route to where we set up. There's parking for 64 cars on site and another 50 in an overflow grassed area.

For info the museum has just had an Apache AH64 delivered last week for permanent display.

That is all, look forward to seeing you chaps on the day, I'm sure pics will be taken. If chaps with banners can bring them along that would be good

No worries, Baz, we always knew it was touch and go. Good luck with the move, mate, hopefully see you once you've settled in.

What else should I bring, in addition to the banner?

Just bring the usual back up in case something goes awry with my travel plans, Tim. I'm doing the usual Beachhead type set upset up so providing everything game wise.

See you all tomorrow guys With banner Brian, this is like one of those drop down / put up miniature film screens with an advertisement depicting WWI aircraft and the Logo for the Aerodrome. Tim's banner shows Fokker DVIIs, mine shows Sopwith Camels. We use them at shows to promote the UK wing.

Big thankyou to those that made the trek to the event, much appreciated by Conrad, not much trade unfortunately but we had some laughs and games between ourselves.
Good to see DM up and around and Suzie at her first event for the forum - I think I even saw her teaching somebody at one time, not bad for a rookie !
Few pictures taken but I will post the few I took idc.
Museum well worth a visit if you're ever passing and if you do, make sure you visit the memorial at the end of the field off the car park listing all the pilots who gave their lives in army aviation, which include the RFC of course.

Thanks very much Dave for bringing all the materiel so that we just had to turn up and play. As you have said not too much action from the veterans but good to see the usual crowd (and some new ones) who show up and help run the games.

There is also a WW2 one, but I don't have a copy of that.

The Pics I took were shockingly bad, probably not helped by my dodgy old camera, lack of skill and iffy lighting conditions in the hall so this is all you get but it'll give you an idea of the location we had:

My phone camera did better outside and in, here's the venue:

Good to see you again, Mark, you got a nice back drop to your game, which looked superb by the way.
Also like the way you've marked the model stands to help identify them, good idea.
    See you at Flight Club

Mark (Woof) flanked by Suzie's other half, Iain, who we finally got to play the game - and he got two kills !

A pic of the early war birds we started with - my repainted Brit Nieuport 11's & Fokker A.III's.
Think that's my Bebe clattering Tim's Green A.III with Gary's dirty red Fokker heading the other way; Iain picked the wrong card on the left and Mark is about to respawn in the green N.11 at the top of the mat.

We later went on to exercise Camels v Fokker Dr.1's and Se5a's v Fokker D.VII's
