Sorry I meant to say this was for the WWI planes.

I know in the WWII planes you need multiples.

I noticed that a few people have said this. Does this work well for missions and play balance.

Of the planes that I do buy, and I don't buy them all, typically I've been trying to get two. Maybe I am over buying for my needs.

    What is the general consensus.

Although I am not a "buy the entire series" guy, fir certain aircraft I will buy all variants, and for some others I will buy all variants and extras for repaints. For example, I have one Pfalz and one S.S. D.III while I have 7 Alb. D.Vs......

Yes, that's my philosophy It is necessary to note that it works just for WGF. When you're playing WGS, you need at least several planes in pairs: almost all German fighters, Spitfires, Mustangs,...
But for WGF it works well - there are plenty of planes on both sides so it is easy to setup a game that is historically accurate. The roots of this rule are in my beginnings with this game - I was a poor student and I could offer just few minis...

PS: The only one WGF type that I have two of them (all of them in this case!) is rocket Nieuport 16. I just wanted to have both balloons, but I will sell on of them (and one old Caquot balloon) when the new German one will be released

I can't vote on this, with the choices offered. It depends.
    - I was buying two of the scouts on each release, if I didn't have any, for hosting Dogfight Challenges (two of the same plane, head-to-head).
    - I buy to get any different maneuver decks, if I don't have them.
    - I bought a few of the latest series I didn't necessarily want for planes, but to see the new Ace and Equipment cards. I actually wanted all of them, but couldn't afford them.
    - I have bought extra planes for repaints (No. 10 RNAS Black Flight. Including a second plane for Collishaw's B-gunned Triplane).

I buy all of each series plus more of some to repaint. As a result I have a dozen or so Alb.D5a and Dr1,s
    and the list goes on.

    Same here!

I buy two of each, for flying pairs, and multiple extras where a squadron or Jasta is possible.
I also hoover up multiple cheap extras, for handing on to others who missed out and can't get them.

Awesome can I give a very short list of what I'm missing

I buy at least one of each then go back for more to repaint or run flights.

And sometimes when I see an old Wings of War miniature sitting on a shelf I just have to buy it so it will have some other planes to play with

i usually only buy one of each type when they come out. occasionally ill get 1 or 2 more but not often. later i look for bargains

I buy all of the planes of each type that I'm interested in. I only buy one of the larger planes (i.e. bombers).

  13. #13

Minimum is one of each type.

If I like the plane, for example the Phoenix, I ordered two and will buy the third one later in my flagshipstore or AA.

Originally it was one of each, but I soon changed that to multiples for repaints.
Not to the same savle as Tim, but I have a lot of models for various Jasta and Squadrons, generally at least three from a unit.

  15. #15

I was always a one of each type, but as I am not one for repaints has to be three of the same in order to have flights (or six when it comes to Spads and Bristols)

I suppose I'm one of the rare ones and until the last day or so I thought the only one. I don't paint or model so I never buy enough for repaints or flights. I'm also trying to not get everything that comes out, just because. I've done the OCD thing with another game and spend more money than I'll ever put on a table to play.

Because of this I bought mostly in twos, though not entirely. I have only a few two seaters, not enough really, and only one of the ones that I do have. The only things I have three of is the DH2s which are cool looking and the Albatros DVa which I got by accident, I ordered the wrong pilot then ordered the correct one. I have a few that only have one: Aviatik D.I; Halberstadt D.III; Morane-Saulnier Type N; SPAD S.VII.

The reason I bought two of each was to have 'balanced' match ups and for mini-flights. But after listening to everyone and see the poll I don't think there is a need to fill in everything.

    Thanks,

For me it really depends on the aircraft, war, and storage space. My purchasing ranges anywhere from just two planes to buying multiple extras (purchased 5 B-17G's for example).

Haha. I left out storage. I have everything, except for maps, fitting into a couple of boxes and I do not wish to exceed that. Maybe, and that is iffy at best, I could consider getting one more Hanger Tray since I could fit one more. Otherwise you're right, at least for me, storage is a hard stop.

Having said that, storage is one of the reasons I want a decent selection and/or variety. Once my trays are filled I'm done. So the dilemma between getting a new wave, seeking out older planes or getting more than one of a given type is even of a greater import than might otherwise be.

I usually buy the complete set. Then later on if I stumble on a price I can't say no to I'll buy more.

  20. #20

OK, I voted "Entire Set" but that's not necessarily true. My choices are usually dictated by the historical prevalence of a given plane in general use. For example, I own one each of all Sopwith Camel models offered but only two Snipes; I also have all available Fokker Dr.1s but only one D.VIII. As far as two-seaters are concerned, I typically have only one or two from the set ... again, based on how prevalent they were. About the only models I've purchased in "repaint" quantities are Albatrosses and Moraine-Saulniers ... the letter merely because I can't find any DH.2s. I like the variety of paint jobs to better identify a player's plane for game purposes. I have not purchased any bombers as yet ... and occasionally fear I my regret it some day ... but as a few others have already stated, it's a matter of space constraints.

As up until late I have been buying the entire sets with a few extras for repaints (got several that are on the workbench now that need to be repainted). Holding back hobby funds for what I think will be better future sets.

  22. #22

If I could, I would buy the entire set!! But since I can't, 2 miniatures from each model of a single series, when possible (usually once a year or so).

I buy extras for "repaints" but have yet to repaint or modify any.

It really depends on what Aircraft are in the set.
    I have multiples of Albatross D.Va (4), Camels (6), SE 5a (2 but want more!), DH-4 (2), Fokker Dr.I (6), Pfalz (2), SSW (2), Albatross D.II (3), Fok D.VII (2), Snipes (2), Nieuport 17/23 (4), DH-2 (3), Morane (3), Fok E.III (4) & I wont go into all the others! Definately need more Albatros D.III's & RE 8's
Out of the last release I only brought the Strutter Comic & the Albatross C.III

    Hi Ken,

I usually get 2-3 two seaters so I can run a flight for a bombing raid. Particularly late war types where the threat environment was such that it became simply too dangerous to send out individual aircraft.

What is the Be 2? I don't see that. Has that been released WoF or WoF?

I usually don't have enough people to play that many two seaters. The biggest game I've been able to play is four people with a single plane each. This game doesn't lend itself terribly well to controlling more than 1 or 2 planes per person. Usually it is it just me playing my wife or an AI. Bigger battles would definitely be more fun but needing more people I'm not sure if I'd get to play them.

You could try using WGF RAP rule automatic plane movement or the Wings of Glory app to control the two seaters while the players take scouts. I played a game recently using this concept and it worked well - http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...ys-Get-Through

Sorry I don't have the rules in front of me. I do have the app downloaded. I know in the App you set the closest enemy direction and whether they are in firing range or not. But I'm curious. Looking at your AAR, does random movement in the R&A actually move the plane toward a bombing target?

It is supposed to be random but in this case it actually did!! Normally a player would 'take the controls' for the bombing run. With the app you just use the bombing target as the enemy aircraft.

I used to buy the entire set, and repaints in addition until the sets started duplicating models I had sourced from other manufacturers because I could not wait for the release dates of Nexus new lines.
Now I buy only to extend those I already own or those that I have never had, or wish to personalize.

Alright, space constraints be damned! One year later, I now have 2 Capronis, 2 Gothas, 1 Handley Page and 1 Zep. Staaken (sigh)!!

However, I still tend to buy only 1 each of scouts and 1-2 of the 2-seaters offered in a series.

There should be another option for us newbies "whatever we can find at a rational price!" I voted one of each. But I should be so lucky. I swear there is some fella with a warehouse full of planes somewhere lol. I started mid last year and now have 32 planes (when my kick starter arrives).

I normally buy one of each one in a set, or whatever I like . I have 19 DR1in my collection of which I have 5 each from Nexus.
I went for the colorful Germans to break up the drab Entente colors on the board.
As far as WGS goes I have up to 7 of some planes, but I normally have more than of any particular paint scheme plane.
