Must have been very extraordinary conditions; they did say the runway was due for repairs, but still....

maybe that part is not actually part of the runway and just meant for taxiing?
Not really -- the Vampire's exhaust nozzle is *very* low to the ground, and points down a bit when on the ground; so the exhaust is being aimed at the runway.Originally Posted by Jager

Sure, but Vampires have been using runways for decades, so why this incident happened is a puzzle to me.

i'm wondering the same thing. hopefully there is only minor damage to the aircraft.
odd. the taxiway was ok but when she hit the runway all hell breaks loose. thankfully the a/c wasnt damaged,
