Default Vintage plane rips up runway during an air show.

On Sunday the runway was ripped up behind a de Havilland Vampire as it took off at a vintage air show held at Wolverhampton's Halfpenny Green Airport. A video and more details may been seen at https://uk.news.yahoo.com/vintage-pl...132403175.html

Must have been very extraordinary conditions; they did say the runway was due for repairs, but still....

maybe that part is not actually part of the runway and just meant for taxiing?

Not really -- the Vampire's exhaust nozzle is *very* low to the ground, and points down a bit when on the ground; so the exhaust is being aimed at the runway.

Sure, but Vampires have been using runways for decades, so why this incident happened is a puzzle to me.

Nice plane. I hope this did not lead to the plane being grounded.

Wonder what the pilot thought when he looked in the rear-view mirror and saw that lot going up.

That will teach them not to talk to salesmen at the gates with a bit of Tarmac left over.
