We played out this scenario a couple of weeks ago but it has taken me this much time to get my photos in order and write up this AAR – it’s called ‘life’ I think!
Two Cuttle fish tripods have been spotted rampaging across the countryside and three Fokker D.VIIs (Udet, Sachsenberg & Stark) have been hastily dispatched to take destroy them before they discover two separate tank parks – one containing British Mk IV tanks and the other German A7V tanks.
We played on 3 mats with the tank parks on the third mat, the opposite end of the table to the tripods.
Let the ‘games’ begin!
After a long flight down the table and a bit of subtle maneuvering, Udet and Sachsenberg converge on one of the Cuttlefish with Udet bearing the brunt of the tripod’s heat ray.
Udet’s Fokker bursts into flames as Sachsenberg hammers away at the monster.
Meanwhile Stark exchanges unpleasantries with the second tripod.
As Udet is caught in the evil black smoke cloud, Stark continues to hammer away at the second Cuttlefish!
But Stark also gets caught out by a smoke cloud.
Scratch one tank park!
But Stark is not to be shrugged off.
However, Udet has finally succumbed to the flames!
Meanwhile the second tank park has been wiped out by the rampaging tripod.
But Stark and Sachsenburg are determined to exact revenge for the demise of their fellow flyer.
Stark goes down after a mighty battle and the tripods romp home leaving Sachsenberg to lick his wounds before limping home.
At this point we decided to call it a night and a win to the Martian tripods.
In our usual post-game discussions we decided that we should have put out some obstacles that would have caused a potential tripod-topple!
