Thread: For Sale - Parseval-Siegsfeld "Drachen" Observation Balloons

Default For Sale - Parseval-Siegsfeld "Drachen" Observation Balloons

EDIT: These are temporarily unavailable. I will be making a new batch using ABS-like resin on a on an Anycubic M3 Premium.

I was surprised that WoG never released an early WWI observation balloon like the Parseval-Siegsfeld Drachen balloon. So, I decided to design and print my own. I worked for dozens of hours getting the print just right. I’m finally happy with the design.

It is printed in one piece and requires approximately 65 ml of resin an over 10 hours of print and cleanup time. It was printed with the supports on the bottom and lobe side and has a built-in peg for the bomber pegs and balloon bases (not included). It is designed at 1/144 scale tilted at a 30 degree angle, just like the real balloons. It also includes an observer with binoculars, which can be mounted in the basket.

Those can be printed in other sizes oif anyone is interest.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi, I don't suppose it is available in 1/300 at all? I would probably want at least two. Would the STL be available?

Just found examples of both the Parseval-Siegsfeld and Caquot on eBay as 3DPs in 1/300 (and other scales)! I'll start a separate thread, rather than hijack yours.

Hate to say it, but as this was the original poster's only post, and that he has not logged in for two months, I doubt if we'll know anything more. But there is an alternative:

For UK punters, there is a chap in South Wales making both Parceval-Siegsfeld and Cacquot 3DP versions relatively cheaply, in 1/144 and in smaller scales. I have bought both types in 1/300 and they are decent, workable models; from memory, he includes baskets down to (I think) 1/400, maybe smaller. The balloons come in two halves and need to be clipped from a "sheet" of resin, which is relatively easy; they will need a bit of sanding and filling once you've glued the two halves together. I found him quite generous (he sent me a spare P-S model and a load of baskets) and easy to communicate with; his one bit of negative feedback came from someone with terminal cancer and I suspect that their disagreement owed more to the buyer's illness than poor quality service from the seller. Links here - I've copied them as best I could, but they are all quite long and if they don't work, the seller's name to search for is << haydn.nelms (3148) >> :

    1) 1/144 Parceval-Siegsfeld

    2) P-S in other scales:

    3) Cacquot in 1/144:

    Hope that is helpful.

Good call! Not heard of them before and very competitive prices, too.
