starting info sent
Hold up! I still have to hear from a couple of people as to starting positions, and I am giving people a chance to do air to air spotting before they submit their turns. That might affect your maneuvers on turn one.
Chris - this may not have been said to you before but you are the answer to a man's dreams - I've just spent the last 30 minutes franticly hunting to find the mates v.30 info and failed miserably. I came on this thread just about to beg for help and here they are
I’m still drinking tea, haven’t been scrambled yet, lol
Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
Awaiting just one more start position, then we're go.
How about, who are you missing?
An edit of a couple of people who queried:
I didn't want to name the person publicly, it's a matter of simply wanting to keep the players updated on the status; but I feel that naming the name is equivalent to putting a lot of unnecessary pressure on the person in question. Lot of reasons why the person has not submitted his starting position yet, and I am utterly incapable of knowing what any or all of them are.
But, I also don't want to hold up the game for everyone else. It's been a while since the last exchange of messages, so I'll send a gentle prod again, and if I don't hear back from the person in question by this evening (say, 1700 EDT), I'll go ahead and run the aircraft in question until the player can jump in, or perhaps let me know that life outside the 'drome has gotten in the way, and I'll open up running the aircraft to another player.
Understood. Hopefully all is okay and you will get the starting position soon.
Just checking its not me is it?
Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
...And we're off. The game is also starting.
On patrol, high over London, as per direct orders to ignore the possibility of their own Ack-Ack are a pair of Sopwith 1+1/2 Strutters, piloted by Camel Crew and Malachi. They know the Germans are coming tonight, but are not certain in what force, and from which direction. The first raider, a Gotha G-V piloted by Baron Rolf has found a gap in the defensive belts, and is preparing to make its bomb run on whatever target his has been assigned. Unfortunately for the Baron, as he approaches the target area, a searchlight find him, and both Camel Crew & Malachi immediately spot him. Malachi seems to be best positioned for the immediate intercept.
In the first picture, Camel Crew is at the top right, Malachi is near the bottom left, and Baron Rolf is just entering the mapsheet to the extreme left. Baron Rolf is at Altitude 2, with 4 climb counters, Malachi is at Altitude 4, with 4 climb counters.
Oh, and ignore those scorpions. The little buggers seem to get everywhere, even London.
here we go, turn 1 in
And we're off to the races ! Good luck all.

Good luck all, give em hell, remember loved ones below are relying on you!
For the King and all at 22 Arcacia Avenue, Crawley. Round 1 moves in
Bombers incoming...
Voilà le soleil d'Austerlitz!
Incoming, indeed.
Phase 1: Camel Crew is way across London from the illuminated bomber, although that is visible to him. he heads directly for it. Camel Crew immediately turns left to intercept. Baron Rolf can't see the Strutter, but knows he is illuminated, and stalls in an effort to throw off the searchlight.
Phase 2: Both Camel Crew & Malachi dive towards the bomber. Baron Rolf turns to starboard, another attempt to throw off the searchlight crews. The AA gunners shoot at the marauding Gotha, but miss (the A card, no special damage). Malachi's dive just barely puts him in position for a shot at the bomber. Baron Rolf's crew is not pleased at now having to fight off two opponents.
Phase 3: Baron Rolf executes his own climb, while Malachi tries and to keep the bomber in his sights. He fails, but his rear gunner now has the opportunity for a shot:
Turn 2 , spotting phase:
Baron Rolf has evaded the searchlight, and now his crew has woken up to the fact that they are under attack by an enemy aircraft. Marechallennes, in a second Gotha, & Camelbeagle, in a Sopwith Strutter Comic now appear on the scene. The second Gotha is at Altitude 4, with 4 climb counters; the Comic is at Altitude 6, with none.
was that flash of gunfire over there? round 2 in
turn 2 submitted!
Turn 2 in.
Do we bombers get to see a plane that shoots at us? Follow the tracers back to it?
Most certainly:Originally Posted by Teaticket

Baron Rolf's evasion of the searchlight also moves him to long range of the attacking Strutter: and now, the startled rear gunner returns fire. +1 damage to whatever the card drawn was for the Strutter's rear gunner, as per the aim rule.
Meanwhile, Camel Crew starts a game of cat-and-mouse with Marechallannes.
As Baron Rolf and Malachi continue to circle each other, Camelbeagle has spotted gunfire in the distance, and dives to investigate. The Strutter & the Gotha are too far away from each other to shoot. Camel Crew also dives, fairly certain that there's someone or something ahead of and below him.
Malachi sideslips left, putting a little more distance between him and the Gotha. Camelbeagle continues his flight path, probably estimating that he will be able to intercept his target sooner or later. Marechallannes turns to port, perhaps thinking that he might be targeted by an interceptor.
The sky over London gets suddenly very crowded, as on the horizon appear both German and British reinforcements. Malachi now has a massive dilemma, as ahead of him is his target, but behind him, one of the huge Zeppelin-Staaken bombers appears. And then Marechallannes' Gotha is caught by a searchlight; and behind him, one of the British reinforcements has flown into the battle area, and between him and Baron Rolf, a second.
The spotting phase of Turn 3 turns this game into a wild melee:
Turn 3 Moves sent in.
Would it be possible to get final position alt/counters info? My instruments have blinded me and I can't read them in the pics. If not, no worries, Blind Tommy will assist me.
No problem!
Baron Rolf: Altitude 3, no climb
Camel Crew: Altitude 5, 4 climb counters
Malachi: Altitude 3, 4 climb counters
Marechallannes: Altitude 4, 4 climb counters
Camelbeagle: Altitude 5, no climb
Sauerkraut: Altitude 2, 7 climb counters
Crash A Lot: Altitude 6, 2 climb counters
Gangleader147: Altitude 6, 2 climb counters
Thanks, Sam!
Turn 3 submitted
Probably just me but I’m struggling to see the overall aerial view for the purpose of plotting.
Turn 3 submitted ....
Gangleader147 has brought up an important point I missed: specifically, I failed to remove some old newspaper I had down under the mapsheet, to catch crud from my various projects. Makes the edge of the mapsheet very 'busy', and he got lost in the shuffle for a while.
I'm going to see if I can remove the paper without disturbing the game: but in general, if people feel they need more information that would be readily apparent to them in an in-person game, but doesn't translate well to a photo-documented game, send me a query. If it doesn't fall under the 'limited intelligence' aspect of the game, I'll happily work with people about it.
ETA: Success! Let's hear it for the scorpions! Revised views of the turn 3 starting positions below, this time hopefully much more clearly:

Guns primed, ammo checked, oil pressure checked, fuel checked.... bring on turn 4 lol

Bugger me but that bomber is HUGE. Here we go, round 3 in

Not as terrifying as they look. We used two Staakens with a two fighter escort in a Flight Club scenario and both were shot down short of their targets.
