WOW, just WOW. As a Donnie Rooky is was great to meet all who attended. Great bunch of people. One day the story will be told of what happens if you fly into balloon cables. Great Zombiecide, WGS bombing raid over the channel, Defend the balloon (huh bloody stupid things) and Ace of Aces. Much beer was drunk and food consumed. Congrats to Chris for organising the whole thing and hope to meet more of you next year - I will be attending. Mandy Is it cigarette time yet?
What a dodgy bunch of peeps you look
Looking forward to the photos . How was the Brazilian night out

Thanks everyone for a great weekend. My 2.5 year old daughter is very impressed with the "parrot" I brought home.
I'll definitely be back next year if I can!
Home safe and sound after a wonderful weekend. Thanks all.
Cannot agree more! Well done Simon and Mark (Hopefully Mark, you will be able to tell Piper some interesting bed time stories about the games that you and the other boys and girls played this weekend )Well done Mark for winning the Ace of Aces and Simon the sails trophy.
And a great number of thankyou's to everyone who made it such a great event, especially the ladies who took great care of Yon, my wife, on her first trip. And Chris, Simon and Tim and all those behind the scenes that make events like this happen - not least the staff at the museum.
The games were great, but I confess, the best of the weekend for me was seeing everyone again and meeting new folk, after such a long break. And on that score I really was very sorry indeed not to meet all the over seas members again, or the new members who wanted to make the trip and couldn't. As has been said already, you were sorely missed this time around - here's to the next one .
Cheers all

"Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you're scared to death."
Von Kytel then goes on to be the final nail in the Eagles coffin by colliding with his wingman twice in consecutive moves. As both aircraft go down it seals the fate of the whole squadron. ( This photograph has been removed by order of the German sensor and my loaded Mauser pistol being pointed at the photographer's cop, on account of its adverse effect on the morale of the Eagle Squadron)

Each year for the Ace of Aces game, Tim turns up and provides all the aircraft, manoeuvre decks etc, and spends a lot of his time getting things set up and then putting it away again at the end of the bloodfest. We thought that we should acknowledge his input to the game so came up with a suitable token of our gratitude.
The penguins hark back to the long-running penguin joke thread, and the dodo because I ran out of penguins (although it could be seen as an allegory of Ares continuing support for the game.... )
Run for your life - there are stupid people everywhere!
I must add my thanks to Gunners for the effort he made on this wonderful presentation model for Tim.
The Camo alone is a sight to behold let alone the workmanship on the rest of the model to marry up all the individual parts.

Absolutely remarkable piece of work, the details are a work of genius....

Nice to see all the pics from the event. Hope to see you all again next year. And a great prize for Tim, well deserved.
regards to all,

She has been getting into a lot of pirate themed things lately so I think "parrot" is currently synonymous with "bird". Who knows, she might be a sails player!
For those who may wish to relive it, I've put together a brief after action for the Battle of Britain scenario I ran.
Doncaster-Battle-of-Britain-2021-Scenario-and-AAR
Thanks again to Steve and John for running the other WW2 scenarios that I took part in and were both very enjoyable. I do now find myself wondering about scenarios for next year whilst looking at shapeways and AIM; This could be a slippery slope...
What a great write up of the Doncaster meeting. You are making us jealous, it has been soooo long since there has been a con here. That trophy was so really magnificent too and very well deserved no doubt.
Ah the memories are flooding back. Nice one Steve on Tims model and a well award to the great man himself.

That award for Tim is priceless!
Love all the little details that went into "The Flying Helmut", especially the floatplane Dr.1 with appropriate slogan on the top wing!
Everyone is going to want a floatplane Dr.I now.
I like the freighter on fire. Any details available?
So how many books are in your personal library?
Obvious that Doncaster 2021 was a success. Enjoyable to view the pics.
The award to Tim - I saw the picture without realizing what it was about and thought what in the heck is that abomination about? - then I saw the inscription!

And a post from Mrs. Kyte?! You all had too much fun!
Thanks for the info John.

Addendum to my game at Doncaster.
If any members of the Drome who are not members of the Anchorage played in my seafaring game, if you sighn on to our sister forum as shipmates I can award you the participation medal in addition to the ones on here which Chris will be forking out.

Wonderful event comrades!
Thx for the pictures. I still have my visits in good memory.
...and my double wooden spoon I won there.
Voilà le soleil d'Austerlitz!
It looks like you all had a good time with some very nice terrain on the WWl table.
Brilliant trophy for Tim and incredibly well made and painted, love the cameo on the sides.
Thanks all for the photos.
so... now that I have managed to finally get the photos off my new phone and onto my laptop, here is my report on the Doncaster 2021 weekend...
So on Friday as a break from tradition and it had been so long since a lot of us had managed to sit around a table with old friends and play a boardgame, we went for a large game of Zombicide. Went well even though Chris (Boney10) managed to get himself killed horribly after only 2 turns.
Much joyous slaughter of the walking dead followed. (although we ran out of time before we managed to get to the helicopter)
Meanwhile, elsewhere David had set up a WW1 game, but alas folk were either late arriving, setting up sails or playing zombicide... oh well thats one for the timetable next year... like a certain, now mythical Shanghai 1938 game.
Down the corridor is the Boaty Boy (sorry, 'Sails') room, Rob had been hard at work setting up for the Saturday, polishing the port glasses and practicing his toasts.
A close up of the magnificent Tripoli harbour. (I was a little disappointed that I wasn't able to find where I used to live in Rob's model, but I guess the place has changed somewhat over the years, even before it was 'remodelled' by the USAF)
So onto Saturday and first up on the WW2 table we had a Battle of Britain scenario run by Mark (Woof) on his Doncaster debut. Such an auspicious start to his weekend, little did we know at this point that he would walk away with the Parrot (sorry EAGLE !!!) trophy at the end of the weekend.
On the WW1 table we started off with Dave Manley's seaplane game, with a cracking mix of ships and lesser known floatplanes. All the allies had to do was keep the Hun away from the Motor Torpedo Boats long enough for them to close in on the U-Boat which was stranded on the surface, and then sinking it with Torpedos... simple really, what could go wrong, I was very confident of a swift Allied victory allowing plenty of time to raid the beer fridge before setting up for the next game.
Passing over one of the MTB's giving them a cheery wave... Tally Ho !
All going well - full steam ahead, keep watching the skies
Achtung Deutche wasserflugzeug !!
Well this isn't going to plan... first of the MTBs to get shot up by the dastardly Hun, not a good start.
Don't worry chaps, I'm here to save the day... dakka dakka dakka !!
What ??? they have rear gunners, well that's a little unsporting, knew I should have flown a Felixstowe. Now where did I put the extinguisher?
On a plus note by this time Tim has already drawn 2 BOOM cards !!
Things go from bad to worse, the blaze on the MTB rages unchecked, at least we managed to cause a little smoke from one of the attacker's engines, our only success at this point.
Bugger ! stupid game... looks like its going to be a long swim home. (Oh and did I mention Tim's 2 BOOM cards?)
The action moves to the Western Front and late June 1916, there are rumours of a major push coming in early July in the Somme area. So the RFC have been tasked with getting some photo's of the German defences and other key targets so that the top brass can decide which piece of land to walk slowly across into a hail of machine gun fire, after all you wouldn't want to walk slowly over open ground into the wrong set of machine guns now would you?
Its not quite a Bristol, but the Sopwith Strutter should prove fun to fly... at least I have a rear gunner (oh and a camera... must remember by job is to take pictures)
Must... take pictures... not chase Eindeckers, best leave that to the state of the art fighter escorts.
Yes, I know you are busy getting your plates ready back there, but would you mind awfully doing something about the fire whilst you're at it?
Well, finally get to a target only to have my plane on fire and the Hun on my tail... suffice to say it didn't end well. In fact not only did I get shot down just as I took the picture, but when I respawned, i had exactly the same scenario... on fire over the same target and shot down by the same German (Flying Helmut)... obviously seeking revenge for the 2 BOOM cards he took in the first game, which I may or may not have remembered to mention.
To make matters worse the young Biggles ladies were embarking on a weekend long collision mission, this the first of many...
Meanwhile over on the WW2 table, events had moved on to the end of the war and deadly encounters amidst the misty and snowy alpine peaks as the Nazi elite tried to flee into Switzerland with their ill gotten games. (Great game.. always nice to fly a Condor!)
The final game on the WW1 table was a balloon busting mission played on Mikeemagnus's ingenious and quite brilliant terrain boards.
There were a variety of planes on offer, however you cant beat SPEED !!!!!!!!
SPEED !!!!! screaming past the Hun, heading for the great gasbag in the sky. No matter how many rounds on incendiary ammo I put into the damn thing it took forever to die. I was faced with the biggest dilemma of the weekend... there were penalty points for firing at the opposition with incendiary rounds (apparently its just not cricket), I had a badly damaged Tim bang to rights on the edge of the map... do I lose the game just to try and shoot him down? next time, sod the outcome, I'm pulling the bloody trigger. However despite him escaping my clutches it was finally a win for the Allies after a quite disastrous day.
On to the evening and Simon (Maverick/Ensign Patch to give him his Boaty Boy name) was presented with the award for winning the Sails campaign, not sure what was involved there... probably drinking the most port and not catching scurvy, but I'm sure it was well earned.
On to Sunday and the quiet before the storm that is the carnage of the Ace of Aces game... you can tell by Kyte's smiling face how delighted he is to have been drawn as a German for this, especially as he has Snoopy all ready to make an appearance. It would be remiss of me not to mention (no not Tim's BOOM cards...) that this year we finally had a win for the Bulldog's after 7 years of German victories.
I couldn't finish without this shot of Tim receiving his trophy. We would struggle to put on the Ace of Aces without his help year after year, so this was very much deserved, and as has been stated elsewhere this trophy is absolutely magnificent, well done Steve (Guntruck) and the wizardry of 3D printing.
So it only leaves me to say a big thank you to everyone who managed to turn up in this difficult year, especially those who took the time to organise and run the games for us. It was a massive shame that so many of our friends and comrades were unable to join us from across the channel (and any other body of water for that matter) - hopefully we can all that right next year.
Congratulations to Mark (Woof) on winning the Ace of Aces... he was one of the very few pilots who managed to survive the entire game without being shot down once (although he did only have 1 pt. left at the end). I should also mention Ruth's Wooden Spoon... it was a close run thing and only decided when she was rammed out of the sky by her husband on the very last move of the entire weekend)
So cheers one and all , and hears to next year !!

Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
Nice report Chris and thanks for4 all of your hard work to make the weekend the success it was.
Good report Chris. However I feel you are besmirching Boney10's reputation unfairly, as it wasn't him who copped it in turn 2 of Zombicide. Let us just say that running into a room full of zombies with only a fire axe and a set of crap dice seemed like a good idea at the time
Run for your life - there are stupid people everywhere!
Oh yes.. good point Steve, sorry for legging it to the other door.
Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
Thanks for the report, Chris.
There's just a couple of points I need to raise with you...
There, I think that just about covers it!
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!
Thanks for the resume Chris.
That fills all the bits I missed. Also thanks for popping along to see we boaty boys and regaling us about Tim’s two "Boom" cards hot off the press from the "Snipers Times." WE all thought two booms was a new ploy to fit more sails on a ship until we realized it was Tim to whom you referred.
Bligh.
