Nooooooooooooooooooo!
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
But never!
Ne-ver.
Absolutely never.
If you keep on with this I´ll appeal to the International Court for Human Rights.
You've been warned.
'God' wills it.
See you on the Dark Side......
I am nothing if not intrigued... (I mean mortified)

Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
Barbarian!
Run for your life - there are stupid people everywhere!
I'd never heard of Risk: Legacy or Pandemic: Legacy (although I'm quite familiar with their non-Legacy versions) so I went to the Board Game Geek site and read several reviews.
Now I understand the humor of Angiolillo's photo, and I find it hilarious! Good one!
But ... who in the world would actually pay a significant price for either R:L or P:L, just to wind up destroying the game as it goes along? That seems insane to me!
I've played some really awesome games (like "Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective" and "Ambush!") that could only be played once, and that's fine -- and afterward, I was able to share the games with friends so they could fully enjoy them, too. But destroying a game forever? Blasphemy!
Maybe R:L and P:L are fun enough to be worth it, though.
But if ANYBODY tells me to destroy my precious Gotha's, they can expect a stern punch in the jaw in response!
Tally ho!

Nooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!
Risk Legacy is great but never, never Wings of Glory Legacy.
How could they? Noooo my Preciouses! Noooo!
Well, how else are we going to justify reprint editions? >;)
I know someone suggested "hardcore collectible-card gaming", where whenever a card was "destroyed"... well, let's just say: There was a candle and ashtray on the table.... >:)
Hmm ... what if we make paper printouts of plane cards in the "files" section, then play campaign rules, with everybody getting three planes with a total point value of less than 250? (Or whatever number you want)
Then, if a plane is destroyed, ceremoniously burn the paper effigy of the plane while looking sad and saying appropriate comments about the perished pilot?
Ouch, if you got more you dont want, Ill gladly vollunteer to take them off your hands
sometimes thing just need to be smashed, and that is a good thing!
I've got way too much Scot in my genetic make-up to ever buy a game to ruin it while playing it. I buy planes because I like them, and I can use them for many games. Replayability is a main selling point for Wings of Glory in my opinion.
A friend of mine is a great proponent of taking a hammer to unlucky dice, though, a practice even I could embrace.
"You have to do it. It teaches the remaining dice respect and that there are consequences for poor performance."
Eris,
Have you built many paper planes? I wouldn't burn any successful builds, despite the flaming language that might be generated while putting them together.
I will say that there have been one or two candidates that came very close to wads of crumpled paper.

This is for WGF only right? Then I am good with whatever you decide to do.
Well that is one way to encourage us to buy more aircraft but, if the model is no longer available, it defeats its own objective.
You need to have the other dice around the perifery (in close proximity) to the smashing. If you leave the other dice in the bag/box, they don't experience the "impact".
Of course, the problem may not be the dice? Hate to think what might need to be hit with a hammer, if the dice aren't to blame.

The only thing remotely like this which I have indulged in was in the old days of Airfix plastic wargame figures, where if you captured some enemy guns you got to keep them until the next battle when they were up for capturing back again.
Also if an enemy unit surrendered the Colour barer was melted down. Nothing as drastic as obliterating a host of models.

I bet the pilot was Thor after that blow
I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings
Coming down is the hardest thing
If Ares really wanted to offer a legacy option they would simply need to include aerial victory markings on their decal sheets. I bet some players would actually use them.
I love all planes it hurts when they are destroyed.
Here is my official candidature for a beta tester...

Oooouch!
Enlisted with enthusiasm.
(I have Genoan blood, it has the same effects than the Scots').
May I post your photo around, crediting it to your nickname?
I knew that the Aircraft went for extortionate prices on E-Bay under the hammer, but never thought I would see it taken literally.
Good job that it was not a Red Barron.

Are you out of your minds Sven and Andrea? Is this all to torture the forumers?! High treason or the end of the hobby! Why? I feel pain seeing your photos!

You posted a smiling emoticon my friend, but I can feel your pain between the words.
Get yourself a tool, a miniature and join the brotherhood of Wings of Glory Legacy!

Argh!!
When I saw the picture the only thing I could think of was 'oh my goodness; do you have any idea how hard it has been to get some of these miniatures?'
But I get it. So I'll just sit in my corner and cry.
If we promise to destroy all the Sopwith Tripe models will you get Ares to make us an accurate one?
Oh no, not at all. It is a magnificent plane and a superb model. But not for THIS game.
No real nightfighting/bombing rules. No historical daytime scenarios. Tried once to catch up with a Lanc in my Bf 110 simply chasing it accross the table and it was frustrating. Flown one daylight scenario in Me 262 against Lancs and made a slaughter. My negative attitude to that model in WGS is here probably commonly known. And the waste of resources by ARES to produce this bomber in spite of MANY other useful planes (Mossie, Betty, Fw-190A, Bf 109F/G, MC 202, and many moooore...) is just a sheer bloody pain.
IMHO.

Ken, my intension was not to put you off this model. I know some forumers enjoying the Dam Buster scenario. This is not my cup of tea, simply. Too much of fiddly rules and measurements. You must consider if this kind of WGS playing is for you. I prefer dogfight missions plus light bombers, although my nick may mean something different . It is derived from my evergreen love: Duel in the Dark the boardgame..
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
Given the current game support for the large bombers, I think the best way to enjoy the B-17's is to play them in a group with one set of cards (without fighter support as Hap Arnold preferred ) against a swarm of enemy fighters. Doing this made me think of wingman rules, but that is another story... I recommend using a similar combat perspective as found in Philip Sabin's Angels One Five, which features bomber vs fighter combat without getting into the bombing. BTW, I did not mention the Lancaster because I am not a big fan of Star Wars.
Get the dambuster version and you will be surprised how nice and well designed this one is.
A dambuster run is fun!
