Nice job on those. I have seen a photo of a hasty winter camo job on a C-47 so you did good on that.
this camo was also a hasty decision
Nicely painted there, like the winter one
It was a brave decision to take Cartas. Although we know exactly what you are doing, I bet you get lots of uninitiated spectators saying, "When are you going to finish that one?"
Great work on both planes.
Rob.
"Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you're scared to death."
Exactly - uninitiated spectators are looking forward to 4 new Ju88 waiting to assemble in the box.
Cartas,
Not that I need yet another project, but what units did you paint the planes to represent?
Also, I can figure out the dorsal turret and rear gunner firing arcs, but there was supposed to be another gun on these somewhere? I could be mixing up the turret and rear waist guns. I think all the arcs will be A/A as single 7.7 or 12.7 guns.
Mike
Very nice looking Cartas, thank you for sharing. Meager rep given.
I have not exact unit to be represented by these planes. I just needed some soviet planes, because I have only Yaks and I was limited by decals which were in the box. The summer one is slightly inpired by the plane card downloaded from this site, the winter one is just my imagination.
You can find here (this site) some Li-2 plane cards with one or three firing arcs. As you have written - they use A/A.
Cartas,
I'm going to borrow some info and drawings from this site to do up cards:

I like both paint jobs. They provide some inspiration for me to finish my Zvezda models and run some Eastern Front scenarios.
Latest version of the Li-2 card:

[Edit:] Firing arcs now worked out. Background is countryside near Kursk, courtesy of Google Earth.
There is already a card out there somewhere, as posted on this thread:
Transport Planes
That artist also used the same source file for the color scheme as Cartas and I!
Mike
PS: On my link to the Li-2 page above, it states that a few planes had a 20mm cannon in the turret. Surprise!

Are there some other Li2/Dakota plane cards to download somewhere?
Cartas,
I have only found a C-47 card here: Downloads - C-47
There is an Li-2 card out, too, but only on a thread and not good enough quality for downloading, here :Transport Planes
I am working on some, too.
Mike
I found two variants on Max page

Let me know after you finish your version
Cartas,
Two cards are up in my new WWII Allied Transport Plane album: Here
These two planes are all single 7mm or 12mm guns, so all A/A. There could be a 20mm cannon in the turret on a future plane?
They should be close enough for your planes. Complete guesses at which units they belonged to. But that can be fixed, if you have ones you want.

Thanks Mike,
they are great and almost my couflages. I will use them for sure.
I have also two other models which are waiting for assembly and for their comouflages
Thanks for them!
That's convinced me I need a Dakota for those little jaunts with VIPs to Malta and Alex.
Very nice work Cartas.
Rob.
"Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you're scared to death."
Cartas, do you have extended wings and fuselage in Dakota conversion?
@Warlock: no I have not. Just cut the curret.
Some very nice models there. Thanks for sharing
My Zvezda Li-2 in Civil Dressing.
This is for my Spanish Civil War.
But it can be used in all theaters of war when an independent transport might be needed.
Now I would need to know what deck to use. Bomber base, of course...
An a card... A simple card... With hit points (how many, Zoe?) and no guns...
Just saying...
Good looking planes!
Thanks, Dave.
Hi all,
I just picked up two of these beauties, and was planning to do one up as a US C-47 for Operation Husky. Does anyone have any colour plates for such, or painting guidelines?
It would be the roundel with the bars and red outline, and no invasion stripes, but beyond that I don't know enough.
Cheers folks!
I have one of these Zvezda models coming today, so I have some questions from a modeling noob. How did you paint these up? Can you assemble them without the windows, paint them, then reassemble them? did you need to prime them?
I found a nice site with a lot of info on the paint schemes for the Lisunov Li-2's.

rep gun jammed! very cool!!! hopefully it will inspire me to finally get my zvezdas finished.
Very nice! Great photography as well. I have a few of these I need to do. Now I’m more inspired!
Looking good. These are good inspiration to get to the few Zvezdas I have to do as C-47s.
The Japanese had their own clone version, the Showa/Nakajima L2D.

Beautiful night view of this D.Day C-47.

I kept the weathering mostly light using Nuln Oil and other mixes, but the control surfaces were usually a different color even from the factory since made by a subcontractor. Weathering could be quite varied and severe, as in this example:

Great work Chris!
Super targets Chris. Isn't it a joy to know that all your hard work on these and they will will only result in them getting butchered!
lol, thanks fellas. I'm sure they will burn gloriously.
Really nice job there Chris!
Very nice Chris. I'm sure whoever flies with them will defend them vigorously.

Appreciate it
We'll see if they have a quiet flight!
Very well presented aircraft Chris, but don't hold your breath. They are just too big to miss easily.
Rob.
"Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you're scared to death."
Really nice work there, Chris.
Mine are still sitting in the "to be painted someday" queue.
Very nice C-47s!
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!
Thanks, all. Glad to have them in the game, I think
And you're right, Rob, they'll be hard to miss. Might have to start them at different altitudes and give them an Immelmann
