    Superb rendition Peter.
As I said to James those colours are great together.
We could well end up with a "Tiger Jasta" if we all fall for the scheme.

Default Mauve and Green Halberstadt DIII

Here is the Wings of Glory green and brown Halberstadt repainted in mauve and green. Again, it's all Vallejo acrylics, and I went with a bit more of an olive green - I really like the colors together. Perhaps the darker olive would have bleached out a little with wear and sun?!

I must admit that I'm having fun taking pictures with this new phone of mine! It takes quite nice snaps...the first two pictures are 'clean' shots of just the plane, and the third picture show it on fire in its first flight this past Friday - we were flying it and an Eindecker against two DH2s.

I've done a Roland CLII in the same style, and I'll post that under the Roland thread.

    Thanks for looking!

Beauty of a Halberstadt! And you've done a Roland in similar style... on fire? Best way to display a Roland!

Nice Halb Matt. I like the bright color. I repainted a brown one but have darker colors. I like yours better.

Yes I must agree Peter, i was immediately struck by the vibrancy of that purple. It looks very smart indeed.

I picked up some Wings of Glory planes over the holidays and took the plunge at trying to repaint one. My first attempt was the Halberstadt DIII. It's not like painting Sails of Glory ships, that's for sure, but I learned a lot in the process.

There are so many awesome modelers here. Looking at all the repaints and custom work is truly inspiring. Thanks for letting me be a part of this great community.

P.S. Apologies for the poor photography. Lighting wasn't the best and I don't have the Ares land mats yet. Cheers.

I like your red-brown and green mix a lot, Jim - well done! And you've rigged it, too - that's something I have NO desire to do - well done indeed.

    Keep up the great work!

Now wait a minute, Peter - the Roland hasn't been on fire YET - although given my luck on Friday, it probably soon WILL be...

I'm glad you and Rob like the purple/green combination - I really think it 'pops' nicely on the smaller size of the planes - perhaps if I were doing a Wingnuts 1/32 plane I'd go with more 'traditional' colors, but I really do think there is something to the whole 'color-has-scale' issue and I'm happy with the olive/violet mix.

    All the best,
    Matt

Very nice Matt, I like the purple I use the same Vallejo paint and with a few washes you can get the right tone that still pops out on the table.

Sorry, Peter! I still misread these posts sometimes. I wonder what plane Chris flies that would look nice being toasty?!

I think I'll probably do some washes in the future, James - thanks for suggesting it - some of the planes have such nice detail (like the Halberstadt) that they would take nicely to washing...

Pretty much everything I fly ends up being on fire sooner or later... don't think I've played in a Con game in which I didn't end up on fire!

As for the Rolands...? Love 'em. But I am currently most of the way through Bowyer's excellent biography of Albert Ball and that young man absolutely terrorized Rolands. And pretty much every other variety of two-seater...

    Fair point.

Here is, by the way, a pic of me... on fire... at a Con. I'm the splash o' color amidst the drab of camo and PC10. And yes... I draw fire to me like a moth to... er... flame.

If you look at the report on last year's World Champs at Derby in the U.K. sub forum, you will see me on fire in every game bar one.
A very similar thing also happened at Salute and Doncaster, although there I did manage to put the fire out in one game by overdiving which effectively took me out of the game for the rest of play as I attempted to climb back up to fighting level.

Given the location of the fuel tanks in most of the real versions of our 1/144 scale planes, it's no wonder that catching on fire is a common occurence! I was just looking at the Wingnut Wings website today at the directions for the Rumpler CIV (since I have one that I want to repaint), and I was reminded that the pilot's seat is on top of the main fuel tank while the reserve tank is behind his back. Anyone shooting at the pilot or center-mass of the target is quite likely to find one of the tanks...

I'm sure as I fly more missions I'll see my fair share of 'flaming on'.

    All the best,
    Matt

After many months, the little blue Halb made its debut and did fairly well, although the 10 points from a collision didn't help!

Another repaint...looking a bit more yellow than how it actually turned out...Herman Goring's Halb. D.III. I used a Vallejo slightly off white color so that the white panels on the Eisenkruz would be a slightly different shade, as indicated in Kilduff's book on Goring.

This is another one. The fifth one. I'm still missing some.

This one still has some original coloring in it. I thought that the brown was so nice...

This is the only major variance I made to Andrzej's scheme.

And soon it will see the skies...

    Default Schlasta 26b

Here are the four Halberstadt ClII aircraft I painted up for the "Grabenangriff" scenario I ran at Origins this year. The majority of the work was pretty straightforward and simply involved detailing a bit. I painted the edges of the wings green to match the color in the lozenge camo rather than leaving them red, changed the number 3 on three of them to be different aircraft of the Schlasta, repainted the under-surfaces so they matched (wings with one another and touched up the fuselage color), engines and Parabellums were painted black, and the ring for the observer's gun was painted tan to approximate a wood color (as most pics depict this as a wooden ring).

The scenario worked pretty well, and the German participants were pleasantly surprised that the planes were numbered to easily differentiate them...

    As always, thanks for looking!
