CONGRATULATIONS TO: wargamer He scored a 90% on this trivia quiz! Frank Jamison also had a score of 90% but wargamer got his answers to me first. Several others did quite well, and I appreciate all of the responses.

-Answers:
- 11 dirigibles started across the North Sea on what was to be the last big attack on London. High winds drove them away from London before they could do much damage and swept them over France, where more fighters and antiaircraft guns were waiting. Only seven of the airships made it back to Germany. (There are a few conflicting sources regarding how many airships initially launched to participate in this raid. I did not count off points if you did not provided the same number as I have [11])
- Fire broke out at the Imperial German Navy's dirigible shed at Ahlhorn; within minutes five airships were destroyed. LZ87, LZ94, LZ97, LZ105, and SL20. 15 killed and 134 injured.
- 19 January, 1915. Airships L-3 & L-4 (L-6 started the mission with them, but aborted due to bad weather). L-3 dropped it's bombs on and around the harbor of Yarmouth at approximately 8:20pm. L-4 dropped it's bombs on Kings Lynn at approx. 10:50pm. As the Zeppelins left England behind they also left four people killed and nineteen injured.
- On the afternoon of May 31st 1915, Luftschiff Zeppelin 38 (LZ-38) took off from its pen at Brussels-Evere. Its mission profile called for a short bomb run of the important industrial east side of London. After encountering a brief, southwest thunder storm, LZ-38′s commander, Hauptmann Karl Linnarz, ordered a sharp east turn towards England’s south east coast. The massive airship was first sighted over Southend at around 9:15pm. By 10:50pm it was over the storied British capital. Flying at around 10,000 feet, at 10:59, Linnarz gave the order to ‘release bombs’. One hundred and twenty high explosive and incendiary bombs rained down on Stoke Newington and Dalston. Also hit were Hoxton, Whitechapel and Leytonstone.
- The Conte was shot up by French troops on 9 August. 1914, and the Dupuy-de-Lôme is shot down by French ground troops on 24 Aug. 1914. Both where so damaged, that they were scrapped.
- The wartime casualty rate among German airship crew was 40%.
- Heinrich Mathy born 4th April, 1883 at Mannheim, Germany, died 2nd January, 1916 at Potters Bar, England.
- On June 17, 1915, Lt. R.A.J. Warneford of the RNAF, flying in a Morane Saulnier L, dropped bombs on LZ-37. After a few moments, there was a tremendous explosion, and the Zeppelin fell to the earth engulfed in flames.
- Kapilänleutnant Alois Böcker commanded L-33. He and his entire crew where captured after crash landing at 1:20am, 23, September, 1916 (due to damage from British aircraft fire) near Essex near the Peldon and Little Wigboroug church. Specialist, Edgar Nicholas, apprehended the entire crew without even firing a shot.
- LZ46/L 14, First flight on 9 August 1915. Last flight on 23 June, 1919. Total of 526 Flights; 42 reconnaissance missions; 17 attacks on England dropping 22,045 kg bombs; taken out of service during 1917 and 1918. Destroyed by its crew on 23 June 1919.
Additional Notes on Heinrich Mathy:
Kapitanleutnant Heinrich Mathy achieved a rare accolade during the Great War; he was one of very few Germans whose names were household words in Britain. During the "Zeppelin Scourge" of 1915 and 1916, Mathy was known and feared as the most daring and audacious of all the Zeppelin raiders.
He was the Commander of L31 as it attacked London for the last time on the night of 1st/2nd October, 1916, to be shot down in flames by 2/Lieut. W. J. Tempest (flying a BE2C, firing incendiary rounds). The ship fell just oustide Potters Bar, to the North of London. Mathy's body was found some way from the wreckage of the ship, half-embedded in the corner of a field. Obviously, his last act had been to leap clear of the falling inferno rather than wait for the crash. According to some accounts, he lived for a few minutes after striking the earth.
