The Bolton Paul Defiant is one of the weirdest planes of WW2. It very much looks like a Hurricane (German pilots often missidientified it), but it has not fixed frontal weapons. Instead it has a dorsal 4x .303 MG turret operated by a gunner in a cupola. The cupola was supposed to turn 360º, but it was very cumbersome and slow to deploy the guns over the pilot's cabin, so in action for practical terms, the gunner almost never fired in the frontal arc. In this plane, the firing arc is actually the outer part of the arc, covering sides and rear. We use it with the D deck, removing one of the two close turns for each side to make it worse turner than the Hurri. Climb 5 ceiling 9.

It is not wierd. It is quite logical. The boulton paul was a bomber destroyer. It was faster than a bomber, so the pilot would take the plane in front of a bomber while the gunner opened fire into the engines and the cockpit. The plane was wery vunerable to fighters.

If only it had the Hurricanes fixed forward armament IT could have been devastating

The spelling of Boulton is incorrect! The common mistake of dropping the 'U' has been made. If you look in the UK phone book you will find that there are more of us Boultons then there are Boltons.
